Hurricane Michael (October 2018)

On October 9, 2018, President Trump approved Florida's request for a pre-landfall emergency declaration for Hurricane Michael. This declaration will provide Public Assistance from FEMA to state and local governments in Florida for debris removal and equipment and supplies for emergency protective measures. The declaration covers 35 counties: Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton, Holmes, Washington, Bay, Jackson, Calhoun, Gulf, Gadsden, Liberty, Franklin, Leon, Wakulla, Jefferson, Madison, Taylor, Columbia, Hamilton, Suwanee, Lafayette, Dixie, Gilchrist, Levy, Citrus, Pasco, Hernando, Pinellas, Hillsborough, Manatee, Alachua, Union, Bradford and Baker Counties.

Disaster Hotlines

  • Florida Disaster Legal Aid Hotline:  1-866-550-2929

A legal aid hotline is now available for Hurricane Michael survivors in Florida who cannot pay for an attorney.  The hotline operates through a partnership between The Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division, the American Bar Association (ABA) Young Lawyers Division, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).  Read the press release.

The Disaster Distress Hotline is the first national hotline dedicated to providing year-round disaster crisis counseling. This toll-free, multilingual, crisis support service is available 24/7 via telephone (1-800-985-5990) and SMS (text 'TalkWithUs' to 66746) to residents in the U.S. and its territories who are experiencing emotional distress related to natural or man-made disasters.

SAIL is currently activated and available 24 hours/7 days a week

The Florida State Assistance Information Line (SAIL) is a toll-free hotline activated at the time of an emergency to provide an additional resource for those in Florida to receive accurate and up-to-date information regarding an emergency or disaster situation impacting the State of Florida.

SNAP benefits updates:

DCF will replace SNAP benefits at a 40% rate for households currently receiving SNAP in Bay, Calhoun, Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Wakulla, and Washington counties.

Households in Hurricane Michael counties can purchase hot food with their SNAP benefits through 10/31.

Getting prescriptions refilled early:

If your health insurance plans covers prescription medications, you can refill your prescription early if:

(1) You have refills left.

(2) You live in a county that:

  • Is under a hurricane warning issued by the National Weather Service;
  • Is declared to be under a state of emergency in an executive order issued by the Governor; or
  • Has activated its emergency operations center and its emergency management plan.

(3)  The prescription medication refill is requested within 30 days after one of the above happens or is ended. 

For more information, read the letter that AHCA sent  to health insurers, managed care organizations, and other health entities reminding them that all health entities must allow for early prescription refills in the counties affected by the Governor's Hurricane Michael Emergency Declaration.
